Exercising Hybrid Advising Capabilities
Charlie was a fully virtual student. Cecilia, a College Advising Corps adviser at the University of Georgia, reached out to him by phone to discuss his plans for life after high school and invite him to meet in person. Charlie was eager to meet but had a full-time job; his only availability was on weekends. The pair met virtually and then Charlie took a day off to meet with Cecilia for several hours. They worked together to complete three college applications, fill out FAFSA, and submit Charlie’s applications. Charlie in now majoring in Informatics at a university in Georgia. He is the first in his family to attend college. The UGA program, which partners with Robert W. Woodruff Foundation and Achieve Atlanta, was established in 2009 and has expanded today to place 25 advisers in 21 high schools.
