A Recipe For Success
Kathryn, a College Advising Corps adviser at Michigan State University met with a student who was not planning to go to college. She was taking culinary classes at the local career technical center and hoped her plan would see her into the future. Kathryn helped her student explore additional options. While she was receiving good instruction at the local school, Kathryn’s student decided to pursue an education at a culinary institute in Michigan. With Kathryn’s help, her student was able to secure financial aid. Kathryn’s student shared that the biggest reason for changing schools was discovering the different programs and opportunities available to her at the institute. “Just one conversation about types of career paths with students can help influence their decisions about their futures,” says Kathryn.
As a first-generation college graduate, I know firsthand that applying and going to college is a big deal. I served as an adviser because I wanted to be there to support and celebrate my students' accomplishments on their path to college.Kevin Bautista, Adviser Alumnus
